3rd grade students had a busy Friday with two presentations! One was with Ashley Dennis, 4-H Coordinator, MSU Extension. She made bouncy balls with the students, focusing on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math) hands-on projects that help to develop skills like critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration! The second presentation was from Katie Urban, MI DNR. Students learned about invasive species, their characteristics and each student had a turn to manage their own pond for invasive crayfish! The number they rolled meant they had to add that many crayfish to their pond and were timed, trying to remove them all.

Mrs. Nasi and GOISD Reading Coach, Michelle Trier helped 3rd grade students kick off their new Science program, OpenSciEd. Students explored balanced and unbalanced structures. They took turns adding items, trying to keep the structure standing and problem solved if it fell over by rebuilding.

High School Art Spotlight 🎨🚁 Our 3D Design students kicked off the fall semester by exploring the world of drones! Students learned about drone laws and regulations, earned their drone licenses, practiced flying, and discovered how drones are used in both volunteer and professional settings. We were also honored to welcome local artist and author Jake Ring to our classroom! Jake shared his passion for drone photography and inspired our students with his knowledge and experience. He was a wealth of information and an incredible speaker. You can check out Jake’s artwork and his soon-to-be-published waterfall book at ringoproductions.com.

To allow travel time to the Gogebic Miners playoff football game on Friday, October 31st, school will dismiss at noon for all students and staff. The early dismissal will cause us to move the elementary costume parade to 10:30. Elementary teachers will plan their classroom Halloween parties for prior to the parade. Go Miners!

We had an awesome day for our Winman field trip! We biked all day and did a great job putting the skills we learn on Split Rock to good use. Huge thank you to @projecthealthyschools and @winmantrails for awarding us the grant to make this possible and for providing our location!
