Wakefield-Marenisco School District

Meal Charge Policy

Adopted by the Wakefield-Marenisco School Board of Education on 09/17/2018.

Following guidelines from the Michigan Department of Education and the National School Lunch Program, and in order to ensure fiscally responsible business practices, the Wakefield-Marenisco School District has adopted the following meal charge policy.

Students will have a $10.00 charge limit. After $10.00 charge limit has been reached, the following will occur…

The student will be informed by the office prior to arriving at the lunchroom if they have surpassed the $10.00 charge limit. At this time, the student will be able to call their parent / guardian to ask if lunch money or a bag lunch can be brought in for the day.

The student will be offered an alternate meal consisting of a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and a milk. We will never deny students a meal.

Families of students with negative lunch balances, regardless of the amount, will receive written notification of the negative balance every other week. Lunch balances are available for parents to view on Powerschool. If you do not have access to Powerschool, please contact the district office for assistance. In addition, automated calls are sent every Thursday to families of students with negative lunch balances.

Lunch balances can be paid by sending the lunch money to school with your student, or by mailing it directly to the Wakefield-Marenisco School.

The lunch program is operated on a very tight budget, which requires each family to be accountable for making prompt lunch payments.
