Cathy Shamion began her school career in Marenisco as a kindergarten student. Her father, Joe Giuliano, taught and coached at Marenisco High School until moving to White Pine where Mrs. Shamion attended elementary and high school, graduating in 1974. She attended Marquette University in Milwaukee, graduating with academic degrees in French and Political Science. Mrs. Shamion returned to school to earn her teaching certification from Northern Michigan University and later her M.A. in Education Administration. She began teaching at White Pine High School in 1985, covering French, US Government, Civics, Global Issues and swimming. She also coached junior high girls’ basketball and varsity volleyball. Mrs. Shamion started her administrative career as WPHS athletic director and became superintendent of the White Pine School District in 2000. She began teaching French at Ewen-Trout Creek High School when the White Pine school district became a K-6 school in 2003. In 2005, Mrs. Shamion was hired as superintendent of the Ewen-Trout Creek Consolidated School District, a position she held until 2008. She is active in the Michigan Association of School Administrators and is a council member for the Upper Peninsula Sports Hall of Fame. Mrs. Shamion’s hobbies include reading and knitting. She is an avid golfer, a registered volleyball official and a fan of all sports, particularly pro football, college basketball and all high school athletics. She is married and has two grandchildren.
